Feminism, as we know it today, is seen as a movement for the liberation of women in society. A movement that demands that women be able to access the rights that men have. But the journey has grown longer and things seem to be going slowly. Since the 20th century, feminists have been separated in their thoughts. But they remain united in their actions, such as demonstrations. We will explore some of these feminist thoughts. These thoughts confuse the word "feminism", which suddenly loses its meaning.
Un féminisme "libérale"
We retrace the different movements thanks to a book from the B.U that I borrowed. This book is called "Pour la fin du sexisme", written by
Angélique Gerard in 2019 (Ed.Eyrolles).
In this book, we retrace the history of feminism as we learn about the author herself, from what she thinks about it.
But above all, Angélique approaches an argument which seeks to convince the reader to "think woman". Because the men are still in a thought of "false feminism" for the majority. And this constitutes a major obstacle in the rights of women.
So that's why so-called liberal feminism exists. These women were in droves in the streets for Simone Veil's abortion law (1975). So why were they there? Because these women were convinced in a picture. The image of a woman freed from her maternal side, which gives life. Woman has long been seen as a
procreative being and little for what she really is. Sexual harassment nowadays is seen as a way of badly warning a woman that a man wants to procreate with her. Suddenly, this form of feminism is one of the most publicized in France.
A "radical" feminism"
Ten earlier than the liberal current, radical feminism wants to be a solution to a bigger problem. We all know that women are subject to sexual harassment at work. But we don't all pay attention to the hierarchy. Because this current thinks that by the position occupied by the men, the women are inferior. Angelique Gerard even says in her book:
"to designate the system by which men dominate women through a sexual division of labor - men for paid production, women for reproduction, unpaid".
This corporate hierarchy would therefore be equal to that of a domestic life according to them. In addition, there is a "lesbian feminism" and an "equality feminism", two other branches of this movement.
An "egalitarian" feminism
It is the starting feminism, but this current here is of a general pleonasm. This current covers the majority of the movements, which will have finished dividing thereafter.
But the divisions will have allowed unions thereafter. This thought, native in 1900, was able to give the necessary force to other currents to act.
The action plan of this current to remedy gender equality in a very general way. This feminism can act on areas such as trade unionism, literature, history, science or the place in the public space. All this with the sole aim of improving the living conditions of women and reviewing their traditional place.
The advantage of this current is that it retains a major topical tone without losing membership. We are even starting to raise more taboo questions about sexual identity and orientation.
Transgenders people and lesbians are thus better defended than before. This is when we talk about postmodern feminism, which touches on the most recent questions about women.
Now you know more about feminism and how it has worked for the past few years. Do not hesitate to contact me for a possible problem or to send me an opinion. Thanks for reading
